Seven Savvy Ways Canadian Seniors Can Improve Joint Mobility

Sore Joints? Try These Tips!

Do you have sore joints like me? While these ideas are no substitute for a doctor's care, they have worked well for me. Remember- be sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist before attempting something new. Every body is different, so what has worked well for me, may not be good for you to try at all. Give your Healthcare practitioner a call before trying any of these ideas.

Seven Ways Savvy Canadian Seniors Ease and Eliminate Joint Aches

Did you wake up feeling like the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz - all achy and barely able to move? Well - here are a few things that have worked for my achy joints and they might just work for you too.

  1. Prayer- Have you ever been in so much pain you have cried out in prayer? I have been there, and while my personal prayer was not answered immediately, I was led to places where people were offering prayer and I was healed through their prayers. Twice I was even healed while watching YouTube replays of prayer ministries!
  2. Olive Oil - A gentleman in Attawapiskat First Nations shared this tip with me after I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in my right knee. He said he was told to take 2 Tablespoons of olive oil three times a week for the arthritis in his hands. I thought, "Why not give it a try?" This made a huge difference for my knee!

  3. Emu Oil - I would not have imagined myself buying this stuff - especially when times were so tough for me, but when I visited a consignment crafts store outside Omemee and had a torn rotator cuff - I picked up a little bottle of this stuff. Let me tell you - this oil goes a long way, does not heat up- and does wonders for pain. I am definitely getting myself some of this stuff again!
  4. Massage - I was in terrible pain one day and was led to read an article that explained that you can trick your brain into shutting off the pain signals it is sending out if you rub an area that is close to the pain.
  5. Breathing Techniques - Have you heard of the Wim Hoff breathing technique?  From the interview he did on CBC years ago, it sounded like it is pretty much like the Lamaze breathing method I was taught to use when having my kids. How does this breathing method work to ease joint pain? Well, according to Wim Hoff, it triggers your natural cannabinoid system, so you get high on your own air supply!
  6. Alternating Heat and Cold -  Alternating heat and cold is a well-known topical treatment that is frequently used for swelling. I have used alternating heat and cold from time to time and I have found it has been useful.
  7. Vitamin Supplements - I have been taking Glucosamine for a while and I have noticed a difference -however, the Consumer Reports Magazine is not keen on this, apparently they found that folks given a sugar pill showed just as much improvement as folks who were taking Glucosamine. Therefore they suggested that people save their money and use it to buy more OTC painkillers. Hmmm... what would you rather take - more painkillers or Glucosamine?  Another supplement I take for my joints is Marine Collagen - also good for your skin and hair. I can get my supplements free by playing games on my Android phone on Mistplay. I play games that help my brain, get points and cash them in for gift cards from online stores like Amazon amd Walmart. Want to give Mistplay a try? If you use my Mistplay invitation link, you will get a bonus of 200 points to use towards your first free gift card when you reach 500 points in any game.
