Do you have some mobility devices you no longer use, or that are simply not suitable for you? Those crutches, canes, wheelchairs, hospital beds and other mobility evices could help you get a little more money back on yoour taxes next year when you donate them to the Canadian Red Cross - but only in some provinces. How to Donate Equipment to the Canadian Red Cross
Wondering about donating equipment to the Red Cross? The HELP program currently accepts equipment donations at designated offices in the following provinces:
- Alberta
- British Columbia
- Nova Scotia
- Newfoundland and Labrador
- New Brunswick
- Prince Edward Island
- Yukon
The Canadian Red Cross is in need of the following types of items:
- Wheelchairs
- Walkers,
- Crutches
- Canes
- Bath seats and benches
- Commodes and toilet seats
- Other durable medical equipment
- Linens
- Bandages
- Urinary and incontinence supplies
- Drugs
- Furniture
- Beds other than home-use hospital beds, which may be accepted in BC and Nova Scotia only
How to Donate Your Equipment to the Red Cross
Equipment donations may be dropped off at the HELP Health Equipment Loan Program locations. Due to space limitations, please phone ahead to ensure they can accept the item(s) at that location.
About Tax Rceipts for Your Used EquipmentDonations
Gift-in-kind tax receipts (based on current assessed value) are available for donated equipment.
If you would like a receipt, please make this clear at the time you make your donation. The Canadian Red Cross volunteer or staff person will take down your name, address and phone number.
Please allow up to 3 months for delivery of the tax receipt
If you have not received your tax receipt after 3 months please email HELP@redcross.ca
and include the following information in your email:
- the location where the equipment was donated
- the date it was donated and
- the equipment you donated .
