Five Fun Easy Home Furnishing Ideas

Here are a few home furnishing upcycled that caught my eye and seemed like they might be fairly easy to do. Do you know of some more? please share them in our Canadian Senior Savings Facebook group.
  1. Upcycle Cabinet Doors into Hanging Shelves. This DIY upcycle is from the My Repurposed Life Blog. I like how this uses something many people may have around their home and makes it into something a bit more useful. I think one of these could be quite handy hanging just inside an entranceway.  You could even remove your cupboard doors and replace them with tea towels on velcro that could be tossed for easy cleaning in the washing machine.

  2. Repurpose Dressers to Raise Your Bed.

Need extra storage space in a bedroom? If you have difficulty getting in and out of bed - especially if you are tall, this is a great idea that would not take much time at all. However, rather than having the bed against the wall, I would move it out and use a couple of dressers with the drawers facing out. This repurposed dresser idea was posted to Pinterest by Lisa Brosius.
  3. Turn Sturdy Drawers into End Tables. I have done this one myself previously. It is one of the easiest and quickest upcycles to do. If you have a solid wood old dresser that has a damaged back or top, just pull out the drawers and set them on end. My dresser drawers were the perfect height to set at the ends of the couch. This example of Upcycled Drawers to Side Tables on  Hometalk shows how to add shelves to your drawers as well and they also put handles on top - not something I personally would do. I would simply set them on end, and if you have a narrow basket that you could fill with something heavy like rocks it can add some extra stability to your end tables too - just toss a sheet or table cloth over the top!
  4. Upcycle Wooden Hangars into a Coffee Table 5 Minute Crafts has lots of great furniture upcycle ideas in this video they posted on Facebook. I think my favourite might be how they upcycled wooden hangars into this cool coffee table.

It looks really easy to do. No fancy tools are needed. Just add glue, a strand of mini-lights and a glass tabletop.
  5. Upcycle a Wooden Crib into a Rolling Wardrobe This furniture upcycle is from the same 5 Minute Craft Facebook Video. Quite often people give away old cribs because they no longer meet safety standards. This crafty upcycle turns the crib on its end, and with the addition of a couple of boards for shelves on the bottom and top adding stability, you now have a rolling wardrobe!

This is great because you can see everything at a glance, and it is easy to move to clean behind.
